Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for somewhere new to call home? Welcome to Belmont. Close to established neighbourhoods and minutes from everything you and your family will need, Belmont is the perfect setting for the next chapter in your lives. You’ll find some helpful information about the community below, but if you have any lingering questions, send us an email at calgary@anthemunited.com and we’ll be happy to help, because that’s what good neighbours do.

What schools are in the area?

Belmont has two dedicated community school sites but neighbourhood kids shouldn’t plan to skip class until they are developed.

At the moment, Belmont residents are currently part of the Foothills School District but can talk to Ron Southern School and Holy Child School in Silverado about registering as an out of boundary student.

What will there be to do nearby?

Tired of hearing, “There’s nothing to do…” from the kids all day? Leave that phrase behind for good. In addition to planned facilities like schools, a fire station, mixed use site and commercial/retail complex coming to the southwest corner of the neighbourhood, entertaining the kids is going to be a breeze:

  • For the young ones, a finished playground is part of the first phase, with more parks and pathways planned to link the community together – the perfect way to burn off the endless energy of childhood.
  • Older kids and teens can stay busy with hiking and bike trails, a rec centre, golf course and multiplex.
  • Don’t forget all the other amazing amenities in South Calgary. We have listed a few for you on our amenities page.

Let’s talk Phase 2. When will it open and what kind of houses will be there?

The highly anticipated Phase 2 will launch in summer 2019 with single and double front garage homes, including lots that back onto the completed Belmont park and other green spaces. That means you can keep an eye on the kids playing without even stepping away from your freshly made coffee on those lazy weekend mornings.

When is the City’s rec centre scheduled to open?

According to the City’s timeline, the rec centre will be evaluated as part of the next four year budget discussions in 2022. Until then, get your steps in by visiting one of the many other City facilities, or use nearby green spaces, bike paths, hiking trails, playgrounds and parks for that welcome dose of fresh air.

Are there any off-leash dog parks nearby?

A new off-leash park is planned to the west of Belmont, near Spruce Meadows, but for the moment the closest open park is in Auburn Bay (about 10 min east, at Stoney Tr. & 52 St SE). Dogs love car rides as much as they love running in the park, so we doubt they’ll mind the trip.

Is Belmont accessible by Calgary Transit?

Since the community is still in development, accessibility via transit is constantly improving. For now, Somerset/Bridlewood station is just a few minutes north by car and bus routes are a short walk away in the neighbouring community of Silverado.

“New LRT Station”? Sounds like the next big thing. Where will it be?

A future LRT station will be just 500 metres away from Belmont Street, between 194th and 210th Avenue.

When will 210th Avenue be complete from Macleod Trail to Belmont?

The section of 210th Avenue right next to Belmont is already paved and the City will be paving the remainder starting in Fall 2019 with plans to complete in early 2020. This provides an excellent opportunity for young kids to watch big machinery in action.

Will there be a Homeowner’s Association in Belmont?

We planned Belmont to provide amenities that do not need an association to manage. That means no HOA, and even better, no HOA fees. Spend the money on something nice instead, like ice cream for the kids.

Can I skate or swim on the storm pond?

No, but you wouldn’t want to anyway – skating and swimming is much more fun at a rec centre where treats are only steps away. Visit the City’s website if you want to find out more about storm ponds, and then navigate over to the recreation section to find the closest arena or swimming pool.

Do I get a fence included with my home?

Chain link fencing is provided for lots that share a property line with a municipal reserve or municipal school reserve. Some lots that share a property line with multi-family parcels will have developer installed wood screen fencing.

For more information talk to one of our sales teams, as they can walk you through the details lot by lot.

Does Anthem United plant trees on my property?

Anthem United, the developer, does not plant trees on private property. However, Belmont is part of the City’s Complete Streets initiative, where trees are planted in the road right of way along each street.

The road right of way (or boulevard) adjacent to your property is land that is actually owned by the City, and maintained by you. The town uses this land for snow stock piling, road maintenance or other items as required.

What is the Complete Streets Tree Planting Program?

Complete Streets is one of the many reasons why Belmont is the perfect place to call home. It’s an initiative designed to enhance residential streets with added colour, shade and natural protection by planting and caring for trees along public roads.

Anthem United, and then afterward the City of Calgary, will maintain these trees – but not the grass below, which will grow wild and free until you rein it in with your expert mowing skills.

To find out more, email calgary@anthemunited.com, or get more information about the program on the City’s website.

Who maintains the park areas?

As the developer, Anthem United is initially responsible for building and maintaining all park spaces, but the City of Calgary will take this on once we turn the community over to them.

I have a great business idea. How do I open up shop in the commercial village?

Whether you’re starting a bakery, expanding your microbrewery or creating a franchise tax law outfit, we’d love to help you get off the ground. Simply fill out the form on our Commercial Opportunities page and someone from the Anthem team will follow up with you when space is available.

I have another question that wasn’t answered here. What should I do?
